Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Lafayette Residents Directory, a private reference focused on Lafayette, California, and Contra Costa County records. Accessing or using the pages means you accept the terms below. Do not use the pages if you do not accept them.

1. The Reference and Its Role

Lafayette Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical directory collections that may show who lives or has lived in Lafayette, California. It hosts no government records and is not affiliated with the City of Lafayette, Contra Costa County, any court, or any other records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use these pages or information reached through them to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm a person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, or another unlawful act
  • Make a decision regulated by the FCRA, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish the reference at scale
  • Disrupt the service, bypass security, or interfere with its operation

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

The reference is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Nothing on these pages, and nothing returned by an outside search tool linked from them, is a consumer report. It may not be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.

4. Outside Links and Services

Government portals, libraries, archives, and sponsored search services operate under their own terms and privacy rules. Lafayette Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, fees, security, data practices, or search results.

5. No Warranties

The reference is provided “as is” and “as available.” No warranty is made that a description, link, record detail, coverage date, or search result is accurate, complete, or current. An outside portal may change, fail, or return an incorrect result without notice.

6. Limits on Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of the reference or an outside resource. This includes a decision made from a record or result reached through a linked source.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from a claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from your misuse of the reference or your violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original wording, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a short attributed excerpt are permitted. Republishing a full page or systematically copying the content is not permitted without authorization.

9. Changes to These Terms

The operator may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after a revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the changed terms.

10. Restricting Access

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms, abuses the service, or threatens its security. The operator may take that action at its discretion and without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Relevant California authorities include the California Public Records Act, Government Code §§7920.000 et seq.; the California Consumer Privacy Act/CPRA, Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq.; and the California Delete Act, Civil Code §§1798.99.80 et seq. Those statutes govern public custodians and privacy rights according to their own terms; this private reference does not control a government record.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect to the extent permitted by law.

13. Questions

Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page. The private contact route cannot certify records or answer identity questions.
